Reception: Wednesday, April 20, 6:00 – 8:00pm

Chaffey College and the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art are pleased to announce the Student Invitational 2011, an exhibition featuring a select group of Chaffey College student artists that have excelled in the visual arts programs. In this competitive program, artists are selected by a jury of full-time faculty from the Art, Photography, and Digital Media departments to participate in the exhibition and accompanying honors class. The selected artists participate in a unique seminar course, undergoing a rigorous investigation of their own artistic processes with support and assistance from the art faculty, gallery curators and staff, culminating in an exhibition at the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art. In its 34th year, this annual exhibition reflects the creative professionalism and diversity of the visual arts program at Chaffey College.

Student Invitational 2011 will feature the work of Donald Dreyer, Chris Hackworth, Rachel Hurton, Evert Munguia, Jaime Muñoz, Rachel Alexis Parks, Jessica Pavone, Nicole Rodriguez, and Cherie Savoie.

Hands Across Chaffey

UPDATE (4/13/11):
I just wanted to thank everyone that came out today to participate in the Hands Across Chaffey event. It was wonderful to see faculty, staff, administrators and students all standing together in unity across our campus. Look for photos soon on the various Chaffey College Facebook pages. Thank you!

It was also a great rehearsal for the state-wide
HANDS ACROSS CALIFORNIA event on Sunday, April 17th at 2:00. We really need to fill that line on Sunday for Chaffey College. We have 300-400 Chaffey students pre-registered and several other community colleges in our region will be joining us, but we really need everyone in our community to stand up and be counted this Sunday.

The most important thing the community can do now is to get registered, pick their place in line, and be prepared to Stand Up for California Community Colleges on April 17! The registration process is simple, and individuals can choose their location with the Yahoo Live feature on the Hands Across California website (http://www.handsacrosscalifornia.org/).

Thank you again and see you on Sunday,
John

CHAFFEY PRE-EVENT FOR HANDS ACROSS CALIFORNIA

Join us this Wednesday, April 13th for a final push in preparation for HANDS ACROSS CALIFORNIA on Sunday, April 17th.

This Wednesday at 1:00 during college hour be part of a human chain along the main promenade stretching from the SSA Building to the Theatre. Join hands with students, faculty and staff to demonstrate our support for Chaffey College. While there learn more about the state-wide HANDS ACROSS CALIFORNIA event on Sunday when 1.5 million people will stretch across the state. Stand up and be counted!

What is HANDS ACROSS CALIFORNIA?

Hands Across California will bring Californians statewide together to benefit California's community colleges and their students. The Foundation for California Community Colleges has partnered with Ken Kragen, architect of "We Are The World," "Hands Across America," and "NetAid," to create a once-in-a-generation event bringing California together in support of community colleges and their students.

Hands Across California will create a unified statewide spectacle illustrating the impact of community colleges in the state, raise funds to benefit the California Community Colleges Scholarship Endowment, create vast public awareness of the value of our colleges to their communities, and spawn unprecedented corporate partnerships, philanthropic investments, and community involvement supporting all of our colleges and students statewide.

The event will literally join nearly all of the 112 community colleges in California in a vast statewide human line stretching from San Diego to Sacramento, with connected legs to the line reaching into the Inland Empire, Central Valley, and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles regions.

Chaffey College is what’s considered a “hub” for the Inland Empire, meaning that representatives from other Colleges not on “the Route” have a contact and a location to be counted. Current Chaffey student Marcie Gonzalez is serving as our campus coordinator for Hands Across California; Marcie also is the ASCC Pro-Tempore (student government).

The most important thing the community can do now is to get registered, pick their place in line, and be prepared to Stand Up for California Community Colleges on April 17! The registration process is simple, and individuals can choose their location with the Yahoo Live feature on the Hands Across CA website.

For more information, contact Marcie Gonzalez, ASCC, (mgonzalez1920@aol.com) or Nick Nazarian, Chaffey College Foundation (nick.nazarian@chaffey.edu).
