This Tony Award-winning modern musical focuses on a group of unique 20-somethings making their way in the big city, seeking their purpose in life. A hilarious show full of heart and hummable tunes, AVENUE Q tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who moves to NYC with big dreams and a tiny bank account. AVENUE Q features a cast of people and puppets who tell the story in an entertaining and risqué way. The New York Times hailed AVENUE Q as "a breakthrough musical of a very different stripe. Savvy, sassy and delicious!" and Entertainment Weekly claimed it was "one of the funniest shows you're ever likely to see!" Most theatre goers describe it as “Sesame Street meets South Park.”

AVENUE Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and is directed by Christa El-Said with musical direction by Patrick Aranda. The original Broadway production won the coveted “triple crown” of Tony Awards in 2004, when it beat out Wicked for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.

Due to adult situations and full-puppet nudity, AVENUE Q is inappropriate for children.

AVENUE Q is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

An Evening of Extraordinary Music

It is a rare opportunity to have an artist of this caliber join us at Chaffey College. A winner of nine Grammy awards, six Billboard awards, an Emmy award, and recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Arturo Sandoval will be performing with the Chaffey College Jazz Ensemble featuring our talented music faculty and students in the Chaffey College Theatre on September 12, 2013.

This is the type of unique, quality, signature event that our community has requested and few colleges offer the opportunity to experience. The success of such events through the support of our college community will allow for future events of note and continue to showcase Chaffey College as the jewel of the Inland Empire. We look forward to seeing you all on September 12th at 7:00pm to share an evening of extraordinary music. Our students thank you for your generosity and support of their academic dreams.

GRAMMY AWARD WINNER ARTURO SANDOVAL PERFORMS IN BENEFIT CONCERT AT CHAFFEY COLLEGE

(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) The Chaffey College Music Department is pleased to announce that Arturo Sandoval, nine-time Grammy award winning jazz trumpet player, is appearing in a benefit concert on September 12 at 7:00 pm in the Chaffey College Theatre.

Arturo Sandoval will be performing both solo and with the Chaffey College Jazz Ensemble directed by Music Professor Patrick Aranda. The Amanda Castro Band, a local jazz group co-led by Chaffey College alumna Castro and Professor Aranda, will open the evening’s event.

The benefit concert assists students in the Chaffey College Music Department with proceeds going toward scholarships, new instruments, and updating of music software and computers, as well as providing education, training, and career opportunities in the field of music.

Arturo Sandoval is one of the most dynamic and vivacious live performers of our time, and has been seen by millions at the Oscars performing with Celine Dion, at the Grammy Awards with Justin Timberlake, and at the Billboard Awards with Alicia Keys. Sandoval has earned 9 Grammy Awards, and nominated 17 additional times.  Sandoval has received 6 Billboard Awards and an Emmy Award for his composing work on the entire underscore of the HBO movie based on his life, For Love or Country starring Andy Garcia. His two latest Grammy award-winning albums, Dear Diz (Everyday I Think of You) and Tango Como Yo Te Siento are now available worldwide.

A protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was born in Artemisa, Cuba, in 1949, just two years after Gillespie became the first musician to bring Latin influences into American Jazz. Sandoval began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve, but it didn’t take him long to catch the excitement of the jazz world.  He has since evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugelhorn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see Arturo Sandoval perform at Chaffey College. Tickets are $40 per person and available for purchase at the Chaffey College Bookstore or online at www.chaffey.edu/theatre_tickets.

    Carte de California: Contested Terrain

Carte de California: Contested Terrain, an exhibition opening February, 9, 2013, at the Cal Poly Pomona W. Keith & Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery co-curated by Chaffey's Denise Johnson, Adjunct Faculty in Art History and Photo History, and Rebecca Trawick, Director of the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art.

    Carte de California: Contested Terrain
Enid Baxter Blader, Jeff Cain, Julie Shafer, and Dee Williams
Curated by Denise Johnson + Rebecca Trawick
    February 9 – March 23, 2013
    Artists reception: February 9, 630-930pm

Carte de California: Contested Terrain features artists who explore California's landscapes, which were surveyed and plundered concurrent with the development of photography and the rise of popular image reproduction techniques like the carte-de-visite and stereo-card. Works in the exhibition will consider mapped spaces as divisional device and means of establishing the Other while questioning the arbitrary nature of boundaries that attempt to declare normal vs. marginal, mine vs. yours, the empowered vs. the exploited, and what is valued or abandoned. Carte de California: Contested Terrain will ask viewers to consider the contemporary implications of Manifest Destiny policies and capitalist practices as they mark the western landscape a contested terrain.

    The New World

    The New World
    Curated by Roman Stollenwerk
    January 22 – March 16, 2013
    Artists’ reception: January 22, 2013

Chaffey College and the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art are pleased to present The New World, January 22 – March 16, 2013. The reception for the artists will be January 22, 2013 from 6-8pm with light refreshments and entertainment. The New World will include work by: Isabel Avila, Chris Barnard, Cathy Breslaw, Hugo Crosthwaite, Asad Faulwell, Chuck Feesago, Galeria Perdida, Kaguya, Bianca Kolonusz-Partee, Elleni Sclavenitis, and Joe Suzuki.
