VPCA Faculty Accomplishments

Christina Havenhill, Theatre Arts Professor
  • Led 14 students on a Theatre excursion to New York City January 4-11, 2009. It was a huge success allowing the students to see six Broadway productions and participate in voice and body workshops. They were able to tour the stage of the new musical Shrek and have a talk back with the production manager of Pal Joey. The students learned to ride the subways and buses in NYC and were successful with all hotel and travel arrangements. Yes, this was a theatre experience, but Christina strongly believes it was more of a life experience for all that attended.

  • Stan Hunter, Art/Ceramics Professor
  • His work will appear at the following shows:
    - 2009 Yunomi Invitational, a national and international artists’ show of everyday tea bowls, at the AKAR Gallery in Iowa City, Iowa, March 27 through April 17, 2009.
    - Off the Wall 2009: Benefit & Biennial Auction at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, March 7-14, 2009.
    - College Art Association (CAA) 2009 Annual Conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center, February 27, 2009.

  • Stan’s work also appears on accessCeramics, a contemporary ceramics image resource. AccessCeramics is a growing collection of contemporary ceramics images by recognized artists, enhancing ceramics education worldwide (accessCeramics.org). This project is designed for use by artists, arts educators, scholars and the general public, and is intended to fill a void in contemporary ceramics digital image collections on the web.

  • Don Schroeder, Broadcasting/Cinema Professor
  • Elected to the statewide board of directors of Health Care for All-California, a grassroots activist group working for a universal, single-payer health insurance plan for all Californians. Don was also appointed co-chair of the CODE BLUE CALIFORNIA Campaign that will use the Internet and broadcast media to educate the public about single-payer health insurance. The goal of the campaign is to pass single-payer legislation and make California the nationwide innovator in health care reform.

  • Stephen Rudd, Adjunct Music Professor
  • A review of Stephen’s published work The Blues, Langston Hughes, and Poetry entitled Teaching Jazz Is Teaching Culture appeared in the January issue of the Jazz Network, an online publication of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). Stephen’s review can be accessed at http://www.menc.org/v/jazz/teaching-jazz-is-teaching-culture.

  • Fashion Design
  • The Fashion Design program has successfully moved into the new Chino Community Center Building. The facilities are terrific and everyone is invited to come and visit!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Chaffey College and the Wignall Museum are pleased to present Raised in Craftivity from January 26 – March 7, 2009. Raised in Craftivity is an exhibition of contemporary artists working in craft media that celebrate, challenge and subvert our expectations of these media and the cultures with which they are associated. Traditionally disdained as “feminine,” “domestic,” and “amateur,” today embroidery, ceramics, beadwork, knitting, and woodworking are embraced by emerging gallery artists who explore the rich social and historical associations of these craft media and techniques. Artists include: Jon Bonser, Elaine Bradford, Orly Cogan, Maggy Rozycki Hiltner, Carolyn Hopkins, KnittaPlease, Garth Johnson, Claire Joyce, KnittaPlease, Kate Kretz, Heather Nameth-Bren, Karen Reimer, Ben Schachter, DeAnna Skedel, and Laura Splan.
