Lecture, Performance and BBQ

Three events on September 15, 2008

Erasing the FEAR of American Minstrelsy.
12:30-2:00 PM, Wargin Hall room 142.

This 1 hour lecture on Erasing the FEAR of American Minstrelsy will use actual photos, footage and sound bites from real historical performances to explore the history and legacy of American minstrelsy. This lecture will provide a platform for dialogue about critical issues surrounding race and is a perfect preparation for the performance of The Dance, giving visitors the opportunity to confront this atrocity in our American history together.

Free BBQ Dinner from Up 'N Smoke
5:00-7:00 PM in the Wignall patio.

Sponsored by the Associated Students of Chaffey College

The Dance: The History of American Minstrelsy.
7:00 – 9:00 PM, Chaffey College Theater.

The Dance condenses 100-years of minstrelsy history and explorations of the lingering perceptions that exist today into a one-hour performance which won the 2007 NAACP award for “Best Playwright” and has the support of Mark Steven Greenfield, Harry Belefonte, KCET and others.

The Wignall Museum presentation of this lecture and performance have been graciously supported by Chaffey College’s AMAN/AWOMAN, BFSA, Human Resources, Language Arts, the President’s Office, and the School of Visual, Performing & Communication Arts.
